It is Better to Be Alone than in Bad Company

George Washington once said, "Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company."

Obviously, the father of our country embraced the old Scripture, “Bad company corrupts good character.”

One of the most important things a leader can do is surround him (or her) self with the right kind of people. I have a friend who notoriously says, your friends determine the quality and direction of your life ... I cannot argue. It is impossible to fathom how different my life would be if I were not surrounded by so many great people.

If you are looking for a tangible way to improve your reputation, start by selecting the right friends.

Remember, it is better to be alone than in bad company.
