Proverbs 15:1 states:  “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Unfortunately, many leaders ignore these words.  Instead, they lean into their power and try to lead through coercion and intimidation.  The results are predictable.  Employees may give lip service, but inside they have little respect for the abrasive leader.

Like sandpaper, a harsh leader will “wear down” his leaders and eventually wear out his welcome.

Remember, you are never persuasive when you are abrasive!

Perhaps this would be a good time for you to evaluate your communication style?  Have you been harsh with those you work with?  Have you attempted to coax your son or daughter to behave in a certain way?  Are you trying to “fix” your spouse through strong criticism?

If so, it is time for a more gentle approach.  Nobody likes a person who comes across with too much grit.

You are never persuasive when you are abrasive!
