New Feature: Through My Lens

For several years now, I’ve been encouraged to include more personal information on this site. Honestly, this has been a challenge for me. I’m not sure many of you visit Great Leaders Serve to learn more about me! However, my team finally convinced me to add a new feature – a photo blog.

Here’s the idea...I will periodically post one of my photos with a brief commentary. This image above is the first of those posts. From this point forward, I’ll not feature these images here. When a new image goes live, I’ll send a tweet (or a few) telling people about the post. If you’re interested, you can check it out. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing a few of the people and places I’ve experienced Through My Lens!

Morning in Antarctica

Over the years, I’ve been extremely fortunate to travel to more than 40 countries. The beauty of the planet never ceases to amaze me.tweet_bird However, nothing prepared me for Antarctica. It was the most spectacular place I’ve ever seen. On every trip, I try to shoot one image to summarize the experience. In Antarctica, I was not up to the task. No single image could capture the scope, scale and rugged beauty of the landscape. So, over the weeks and months to come, I’ll share multiple images from this trip of a lifetime. Today, I share one from our climbing excursion.
We left the boat early – around 6:00 a.m. as I recall. We went ashore in rubber rafts called Zodiacs. Before we began our ascent, we were tied together with 10 other climbers. Shortly after we began to climb, the slope increased. It was steep enough you wanted to lean forward; to lean back might result in you ending up a half mile below in the sea. As we moved up the mountainside, the view was stunning. When we came upon the colony of penguins you see here. I knew this would be one of my favorite shots from the trip.[GLS_Shield]
