Thanksgiving - Just Another Day?

I met the UPS man at the door today; he was delivering our turkey for Thanksgiving. It’s amazing, you can order anything over the Internet these days. Smoked in Texas, delivered to Florida, it will be the centerpiece of a great meal. We will be thankful for the meal, our friends and family. It is, after all, Thanksgiving.
Is Thanksgiving a big deal for you? I hope not. As a leader, I believe you should be thankful everyday. A thankful heart enhances our leadership.
Here are a few of the ways choosing to be thankful helps me…

  • When I am thankful, I am less likely to focus on me.
  • When I am thankful, I tend to see my leadership as a stewardship opportunity.
  • When I am thankful, I am less likely to overvalue my contribution.
  • When I am thankful, I tend to be more generous.
  • When I am thankful, I am less wasteful.
  • When I am thankful, I smile more.
  • When I am thankful, my stress level goes way down.
  • When I am thankful, I’m easier to get along with.
  • When I am thankful, I’m more patient.
  • When I am thankful, I’m more loving.
  • When I am thankful, I appreciate the contribution of others more.
  • When I am thankful, I enjoy life more.
  • When I am thankful, I lead at a higher level.

Are you a thankful leader? You really do get to decide.
If you need help getting in the mood, just sit down and make a list of all the things in your life you have to be thankful for. If you’ve never done this, you will be amazed. When you get 100 items on your list, you can stop if you would like; although you may choose to stop at 500 or 1000 items! The point will be made: all of us have a lot to be thankful for.
So, the best leadership advice I have for you today is to choose to be thankful. If this is a choice you’ve not already made, Thanksgiving is a great day to start – just don’t stop. A thankful leader is a better leader.[GLS_Shield]
